UK audit sampling expectations in plain language

Purpose on the page
Expect someone to ask why sampling was appropriate for the assertion and why the size follows from that purpose. Answers that only cite software defaults rarely satisfy.
Population completeness
Be ready to explain how you knew the frame matched the reporting period and source system. Cut-off testing and export parameters belong near the sampling memo, not in a separate orphan note.
Exceptions and escalation
Reviewers look for proportionate language and a clear path from sample miss to further work or conclusion. Silence after an exception is more concerning than a cautious follow-up plan.
